Ancient Theater Thassos
Amongst the destinations of archaeological interest in Thassos, stands out the ancient theater, built in a natural hollow in the hill, with spectacular views. It dates back to the 5th century BC while it was dedicated to the god of drama and play, Dionysus.
There are still large parts of the theater well preserved, and worth a visit not only for its magnificent location with great sunsets, but also for the famous festival which takes place with theatrical and musical performances! In fact, the ancient theater of Thassos, is considered the second best in audio after Epidaurus!
Historically, the theater over the years was renovated and after the 1st century AD it was transformed into an arena for duels.
